What makes Last Dance Saloon the perfect Valentines Day show?

You never know when Cupid’s Arrow might pierce you to the heart!

Who is the show aimed at?

At anyone who’s ever fallen in love... and anyone who thinks they’ll never find love again.

How does the show explore the idea of finding love later in life, and how might this resonate with couples at any stage of their relationship?

When the couple meet they’re wary of each other, they’re from rather different backgrounds and the last thing on their minds is a new relationship: they even sing a song together making that quite clear! But they do find themselves drawn to each other and the ‘ups and downs’ of the developing relationship are recognisable whatever age you are!

How does Multi Story Theatre’s 24 years of experience influence the way they tell stories that resonate across generations?

The stories we’ve made for children always have substance for adults and likewise this story may focus on two older people but their children and grandchildren are fully represented!

Why does the show use tango as a key storytelling element, and how does dance express emotions that words alone cannot?

The essence of tango is about creating a dance together through a process of give and take. And it’s a wonderful metaphor for the theatre-making process. The couple in the play create stories together in the same way they learn to dance together.

Tango hits you at a visceral level that challenges any rational explanation.

How does the intimate ‘in the round’ staging enhance the audience’s connection to the story and characters?

The in the round staging mirrors a Tango Milonga, essentially a social dance, that creates a perfect space for communal listening and watching. So you feel the action.

Finally, if you could sum up the show in 5 words what would they be?

It makes the heart dance.
