Live & Local is a not-for-profit arts organisation working with a network of voluntary groups across Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire. We provide a range of support for arts activities that keep people in touch with their communities and enhance their quality of life.
The Live & Local Community Performance Scheme helps voluntary groups to choose and promote high quality professional performances for their local community venue. At the heart of the scheme is the opportunity to bring people together to enjoy high quality, affordable, memorable and uplifting live entertainment.
A professional office team provides practical support and advice by helping volunteers to choose shows, and by co-ordinating the bookings, subsidising performances and helping them to attract an audience. The scheme is made possible by funding from local authorities and the Arts Council England but happens because of an investment of time, enthusiasm and commitment by local volunteers and their communities.
Live & Local is a Company Limited by Guarantee. It is not a charity.
It has a voluntary Board of Directors (5-9 members), which is drawn from funders, staff, users and artists involved with the organisation’s activities.
From 2010 – 2013 Live & Local will be working in partnership with Warwickshire’s County Arts Service along with Warwick District and Rugby Borough’s Arts Development Services to deliver a new scheme called Arts on our Doorstep. This is funded by the Central Warwickshire Villages LEADER programme and provides advice, support and resources to enable local people from rural Warwick District and Rugby Borough to organise and participate in exciting and innovative small arts projects. |
The organisation grew out of The Warwickshire Village and Community Touring Scheme that was originally managed from 1987 by the County Arts Development Officer. Warwickshire Community Arts was formed as an unincorporated organisation in July 1992 and incorporated as a Company limited by guarantee in August 1994.
Staffordshire joined the network in 1994 and in 1998 Live & Local became the legal name covering all our activities. Subsequently Solihull MBC also joined the network as did Derbyshire in 2001.
Live & Local is one of 40 similar organisations that support professional arts events in hundreds of communities throughout the UK. Live & Local’s Executive Director, John Laidlaw is Chair of the National Rural Touring Forum (NRTF). The NRTF provides a wealth of experience across its membership as well as professional development, market research and cross regional project development opportunities. |
