A lively, engaging and accessible one-woman music show from Kate Dimbleby, talented daughter of David Dimbleby (BBC One 'Question Time' chair).
A 'gracious and grounded' (Simon Callow) performer 'at the top of her game' (BBC Radio 6 Music), this interactive and inspiring show showcases Kate's world-class voice and weaves together stunning multi-layered a capella performances to tell a personal story about finding her own voice through singing the stories of others. Half way between pop and spirituals, the riveting songs serve to inspire others to also express themselves. An uplifting, energizing and unique evening, suitable for all ages.
'Life affirming… a must-see show.' Sunday Times
Kate Dimbleby started her singing career over 20 years ago performing the life stories and songs of other women (Peggy Lee, Bessie Smith and Dory Previn). Her critically acclaimed live shows ('Who is Dory Previn?', 'I'm a Woman', 'Music to Watch Boys By' and 'Fever! The Making of Peggy Lee') became trademarks for a unique blend of singing, storytelling and entertainment. Now she has stepped out of their shadows and finds her own voice.
'[Sing Happy] is about the voices we keep locked up inside. About the need for connection - right here, right now. And if it goes 'wrong', so what? I've realised that the place where things go wrong is where we find the magic.' Kate Dimbleby
Originally directed by Kate Carmichael of Theatre Damfino as 'Songbirds' to accompany the critically-acclaimed album and redirected by award-winning comedy director Cal McCrystal (Giffords Circus, National Theatre, Cirque du Soleil).
Previously toured under the title 'Songbirds'.
