Live and Local - Surprising Shows In Surprising Places

The legacy of Live & Local shows

We at Live & Local pride ourselves in the fact that the shows our Pomoters put on have long lasting memories and can make huge impressions on not only our audiences but on our companies too. Last month Jenny from the office was having a chat with Roger Watson from Boka Halat about the legacy of Live & Local shows and Roger had his own story to tell….

"Follow-ups to Live & Local events come in all shapes and sizes. One of the most frequent questions to Boka Halat from audience members who happen to be teachers, parents or governors is ‘Do you do anything like this for schools?’

Well, of course, we do. The question was asked after a March 2006 Live & Local show at Hope Valley College, Derbyshire, and in March 2007, three members of Boka Halat went on to work with 9 small primary schools in the Hope Valley area, to create 6 new AfroCeilidh dances for their dance festival, for which we also provided live music. The dances were of a very high standard, and, to complete the circle, I had great pleasure in performing some of them at our shows in Staffordshire and Warwickshire later the same month."
