Live and Local - Surprising Shows In Surprising Places

International Village of Culture (IVOC)

31 March – 4 April 2009

The NRTF announced further details of an international rural touring festival and conference to be held in 2009 at the University of Durham, County Durham, from the 31st March – 4th April.

The International Village of Culture initiative will include a four-day showcase of international work in villages in the Wear Valley and Teesdale districts of County Durham and will give attendees the opportunity to experience exciting international work and learn about the practicalities of programming international artists.

The conference element will debate the issues of rural touring at an international level, explore international work suitable for touring in rural areas and showcase the Northern Touring Schemes' two international collaborative commissions "work in progress".

Following research and consultation with key organisations including Arts Council England, Culture10, Visiting Arts and IETM (International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts), the NRTF is developing international and intercultural aspirations. The festival will include artists from Scandinavia, the Baltic States, Eastern Europe and possibly China.
