Sam Lewis in Concert

Show Details

Presented by Sam Lewis

Performance date and time
Friday, 28th February 2020
7:30 PM

Phenomenal tumbleweed Americana from rising Nashville singer-songwriter Sam Lewis. With a storyteller's eye, rich soulful vocals, stirring guitar solos and compelling, well-crafted songs - distilling the simplicity of Willie Nelson, the poetry of Bob Dylan, and the soul of Ray Charles - this is swampy Southern country roots with an emotional, political punch. A laid-back sound that evokes dark bourbon rippling over ice. _________________________________________________________________

Nashville crossover star and Grammy-winner Chris Stapleton once called Americana artist Sam Lewis 'a modern Townes Van Zandt' – himself declared the 'best songwriter in the world' by Steve Earle. The Asheboro, NC singer-songwriter grew up in many towns from the coasts of Florida and the Carolinas to the hills of Virginia with a family often on the move. Now Nashville-based, Lewis has been honing his talents and paying his dues, becoming more of a household name in the process for it. He has toured the country multiple times over with the likes of celebrated icons such as Los Lobos and Chris Stapleton and added his warm molasses vocal strut to collaborations with the likes of Kacey Musgraves and John Prine or the Wood Brothers. He first came to the world's attention in 2012 via his self-titled debut album, Nashville country roots packed with Al Green-style southern soul and sprinkled with Eric Lindell's Big Easy drawl. His 2015 album 'Waiting on You', still soaked with soul, but more in a wistful Van Morrison mode, received a 4★ review from Mojo Magazine and featured in The Telegraph's list of top country albums for 2015. With his phenomenal voice, songs that are multi-faceted gems falling into an intersection between soul, blues and country that doesn't see too many visitors, and a shimmering laidback optimism that bolsters his glide-along philosophy, Lewis channels an instant star power that is not forced nor contrived. Impressive stuff. Some people are just born to play music, and it's clear that Sam Lewis is one of those people. 'There’s so much soul pouring out of this guy's pores you could bathe in it. It's like hearing Al Green for the first time.' No Depression Magazine

'Absolute knockout… ace!!' BBC Wales ★★★★ 'He sounds from another time, or timeless. Either way, good.' Mojo Magazine ★★★★ 'Irresistible.' Blues Magazine
