Saturday, 18th January 2020
Kel Elliott: vocals, double bass Kelvin Leitch: guitar, vocals, percussion, washboard, ukulele Adam Cross: keyboards, saxophone, bass clarinet, accordion Hugh Rashleigh: trumpet, piano, trombone, sousaphone Uplifting, wry, bluesy jazzy folky music from a literate, witty and sassy singer-songwriter - with the unusual distinction of being a double bass player - and her exciting quartet. Matching Kel Elliott's velvety vocals and trademark bass are endearing between-song banter and an impressive range of instruments, from guitar and bass clarinet, to sousaphone, saxophone, accordion, ukulele and percussion. Following (River Avon boat-based) Kel's recent project work with Live & Local on the 'Discover: Chedham's Stories' heritage cyber story-trail - offering a unique insight into the Chedham's Yard blacksmith heritage site in Warwickshire - Kel has been focusing her songwriting on personal stories gathered from historic and reminiscence projects. Zigzaging through the very beat and pulse of human life, Kel uncovers the quirky, the fascinating, the weird and the wonderful. A joy to listen to and true crowd-pleasers Kel Elliott & Her Three Man Orchestra guarantee an evening of great entertainment. Kel Elliott & Her Three Man Orchestra was chosen by BBC Radio 2 presenters Jamie Culham and Jo Whiley to feature on the Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2016 BBC Introducing stage, hosted by Jo Whiley. The showcase was recorded for broadcast across the BBC Introducing local radio network as well as Jo Whiley and Jamie Cullum's Radio 2 shows. 'Kel's songs are upbeat in every sense - lyrically optimistic and musically infectious.' Performing Rights Society 'Kel's upbeat tales of life and lost love are light-hearted and infectious… a star in the making.' Musicians Union Magazine 'Discover: Chedham's Stories': in the autumn of 2015, Live & Local were delighted to be awarded a grant from Warwickshire County Council's Tourism Event Fund to develop an innovative way to explore heritage sites. The project, piloting with Chedham's Yard in Wellesbourne, offers an enhanced visitor experience through a new mobile website blending historical and folklore stories, music and interactive artwork. Kel's conversations with Chedham's Yard volunteers and Wellesbourne residents brought to light wonderful tales about the site. The resulting songs, along with field and archival recordings (including recorded voices and sounds of blacksmiths at work) are enjoyed by visitors via their smartphones or on-site iPods as they walk through the Yard at their leisure.
