BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award finalists 2008.
One of the most exciting, virtuosic and entertaining young bands on the folk scene, Jaywalkers bring exhilarating three-part harmony and exceptional musicianship to blistering, up-tempo traditional American bluegrass, western swing and working-class Lancashire folksong. A joy to watch, with great stage presence, Jaywalkers are the real deal. _________________________________________________________________
Jay Bradberry: fiddle, vocals, guitar
Michael Giverin: mandolin, guitar, harmony vocals
Lucille Williams: bass, harmony vocals
Since starting out back in 2008, Jaywalkers have cemented their reputation for creating music that is innovative, rooted deeply in tradition, and exhilarating. Effortlessly creating their own unique version of acoustic Americana, the band takes influences from folk, old-time, bluegrass, country and western swing music. With their exceptional musicianship, virtuosic instrumentals, three part harmony, impressive slap bass, and great good humour, they are guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
'Three incredible musicians creating a bluegrass party on stage. There must have been some dark trades with the devil to give Mike Giverin such mastery of the mandolin and Jay Bradberry such skill with fiddle and voice.' Folk On Monday
'So refreshing to hear an English outfit so obviously influenced by bluegrass but using it to produce something fresh and original.' fRoots Magazine 'Jay, Mike and Lucy weave a bright and busy tapestry [and] play with precision and aplomb…. [they] create music that is distinctive and enjoyable.' Songlines Magazine
Their live set features exceptional traditional and original songs - the latter inspired by stories and poetry from Mike Giverin's home county of Lancashire - and blistering, foot-stomping, up-tempo instrumentals, and touches upon covers that give an insight into their eclectic musical tastes, ranging from Ed Cobb's 'Tainted Love', originally recorded by Gloria Jones in 1964 and made famous by Soft Cell in 1981, to the striking traditional murder ballad 'Delia's Gone', covered by Johnny Cash.
'Jaywalkers effortlessly blend British and American folk traditions to create something arguably greater than either of these genres.' Acoustic Magazine 'A bright and busy tapestry played with precision and aplomb… music that is distinctive and enjoyable.' Songlines Magazine
